Celebrates the Grand Opening of the Cozzi-J. Miller-Pearson Career Development School and the Graduation of the Class of 2013
The City of New Haven Commission on Equal Opportunities will celebrate the grand opening of the Cozzi-J. Miller-Pearson Career Development School and the graduation of the Class of 2013 on MONDAY, April 15, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at 316 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven. Festivities will include remarks by Kelly Murphy, Economic Development Administrator and Nichole Jefferson, Executive Director of the Career Development School and the graduation of the Class of 2013. “This program is very unique because it provides hands-on training and career development from start to finish for New Haven residents,” said Kelly Murphy. “It not only gives our residents the opportunity to be trained for a lifelong career, it also gives them the opportunity to be placed on development projects that are shaping our city.”
Mayor John DeStefano established the Cozzi-J. Miller-Pearson Career Development School in January 2007. To date over 4,432 were accepted into the program and 60% have gone on to successful employment. The program is intended to simulate an actual work environment. This element was critical to the success of the Construction Workforce Initiative 2 Program. Today that goal is central to the school’s pre-apprenticeship instruction. The Career Development School is supported by an unprecedented collaboration between the City of New Haven, the State of CT Office of Workforce Competitiveness, State of CT Department of Labor, the State of CT Building Trades, New Haven Building Trades, Yale University and the Joint Apprenticeship Training Directors Council...
